Community Work Abroad

Contribute to the local community in any number of ways.

Use your skills on your Gap Year

AV volunteer gap year and summer projects are all community based, therefore whichever project you choose to volunteer on, you will be living and working in the heart of a new community, becoming fully immersed in their way of life.

As an AV volunteer you are not only attached to a school but also a member of the local community. The teachers will be a great source of information on local projects you could become involved with and will help you get to know the local people.

Depending on the project, additional work varies from assisting with aids awareness campaigns, medical clinics and local woman’s groups to working on the farm land – ploughing with oxen, milking goats or cows and collecting water.

There are lots of different ways in which you will be able to help.

If you join us in the summer, your program is particularly focused around community work, helping to build classrooms, plaster walls, concrete floors and decorate them.  You will work alongside our skilled local craftsmen, helping where needed.
