Itinerary - Africa and Asia Venture

Itinerary

Arrival

ARRIVAL

You and your group are asked to arrive in Entebbe, Uganda on the morning of the start of your project.

Days 1 - 3

BRIEFING, ORIENTATION AND TRAVEL TO UGANDA

Your briefing and orientation will take place at the Adrift camp just outside Jinja and alongside the River Nile. You will have a one day introduction to East Africa and briefing on the activities of your project in Uganda, as well as some time to relax and enjoy your new surroundings.

Days 4 -39

TEACHING AND COMMUNITY PROJECT

After the induction course you will drive to Busesa, about two hours from Jinja.   There are three schools within a short distance of each other, where you will be teaching. You will move into your house, which is situated on the edge of Busesa town and within easy walking distance of your schools. There will be basic washing and lavatory arrangements, with limited cooking facilities. You will have a cook to do your shopping and prepare all your meals, although you will need to help out.   This will allow you more time to spend on your project work. You will have project leader with you throughout.

The teaching that you will be doing will only be subjects that you are happy to do (English, maths, music, arts and crafts, etc) or a wide range of PE/sport activities. For part of the day you may be able to put your artistic talents to good use by painting educational murals or preparing visual aids. AV views the project work as the most important part of your stay in Africa.

As well as some time for teaching and coaching sports you will also have the opportunity to help with a community project. The schools are enthusiastic about the project work you will be doing, which could involve classroom or dormitory renovation, painting and decorating or cementing mud floors. Although you may do renovation work in the school where you taught, it could be that there will be other schools where the demand is greater - prepare to be flexible.

Weekends are free for you to do as you wish and explore the area - the source of the Nile is a perfect location for white water rafting, bungee jumping, quad biking and more!
