COMMUNITY ECO-PROJECT IN MEXICAN RAINFOREST VILLAGES

Outline Experience

Mexico Adventure Quote - Vicky Walvis

  • 3 days arrival/ brief
  • 19 days volunteering in the Tuxtlas rain forests and a long weekend of rafting
  • 6 days exploring Mayan culture
  • 5 days on the Caribbean beaches
  • 2 days as a tourist in Mexico City

(Mexico Map>>) Your short volunteering project in Mexico is located in the special tropical biosphere reserve of Tuxtlas, some 140km southeast of Veracruz - a beautiful Gap Years & Volunteering Opportunities in Mexico (Photograph: Adventure activities in Mexico)area with jungle, forests, hills, mangrove swamps and lakes. Here, several poor farming communities have to balance an awareness of nature with the need to secure the future of their communities by promoting sustainable development and eco-education.

Your mini gap year project will play an important role in helping with this. You will live in a rural community (Las Margaritas, Lopez Mateos or Migual Hidalgo) that will really enjoy you living and working with them for three working weeks. They will welcome your sharing their way of life.

Mexico Adventure Details:

Accompanied by a Mexican project leader you will be involved in:

  • Construction and renovating local community projects such as schools, medical facilities or eco-houses
  • Helping construct and restore eco-routes through the forest
  • Coaching and organising village sports
  • Teaching colloquial English to villagers and, in return each day, learning Spanish

During your time at Tuxtlas you will visit the stunning lakeside town of Catemaco and enjoy a three day all-inclusive trip to raft and explore the Rio Pescados, Mexico's top rafting river, before setting off on your Mexican mix of culture, chillies and the Caribbean coast.
