Invaluable Malawi experience

( Last Updated: 21-07-2010 )

My experience in Africa was invaluable. I would probably go as far as saying that it was one of the best years of my life. I dream of it regularly and I am constantly wanting to go back.Gap Years & Volunteering Opportunities in Malawi (Photograph: Teaching in Malawi)

I found that teaching in Malawi not only developed my confidence but also helped my focus and cultural awareness, all key factors in the world in which I work today. Currently managing a book of 300 clients in private wealth management, I am constantly challenged to give a valuable hand in people's lives, in much the same way that I had to in Africa. Both my clients today and the kids out there need us to add value, through teaching or presentations using basic, attention grabbing skills to make sure it all hits home.

I would thoroughly recommend AV to anyone. Whilst it was certainly tough beiing quite young, I don't think anyone would look back and say it was not worthwhile. I am still in touch today with many whom I shared the expereince with.

My brother made the mistake of going to South America with a less developed organisation. When it all went pear-shaped (things got pretty nasty!) they did not have the support and expertise that I witnessed on AV, when difficuties arose on our trip. At the end of the day, it's like most things these days (sadly); you get what you pay for!
