Indian Inspiration - Africa and Asia Venture

Indian Inspiration - Africa and Asia Venture

Chris, who is currenlty volunteering in India, is improving his Indian culinary skills to continue with his delicious fundraising dinner parties when he returns to the UK.

He writes:

Having done some volunteering before, but Gap Years & Volunteering Opportunities in India (Photograph: Chris with his group in Northern India)not quite as fun, on a trip to Kenya earlier in my life I realised that I should raise some money for the charitable aspect of my gap year.  So I racked my brains for something - a sponsored walk seemed too tame, a bake sale far too contrived etc. - until I hit on it.  I'm going to India, I thought, I absolutely adore Indian food, and I had just done a cooking course.  Indian dinner parties seemed the logical thing.  My parents and I prevailed upon our friends and set a series of dates on which to hold the parties.  I prepped and cooked the whole day, each day we did it and spoke a few little words at the end to say what I was doing...

Either my food was really good, or people were unaccountably generous!  Either way I am pleased with it, and people are still requesting that I cook Indian food for them at home... I am now exponentially better than when I went having been cooking exclusively Indian food all the time.

I have been in Kalimpong, and just today got back from a cooking weekend at the lodge we stayed in at the beginning of our time here.  India, and its sublime cuisine, is, in no other adjective, amazing!

Chris' kind donation to the AV Foundation will go to the Lepcha communities he has grown so fond of during his time volunteering in India.  Could we see Chris on Master Chef next year?! Watch this space.....
