Orientation course at the Wayside Inn, on the banks of the River Teesta. A chance to get to know your AV group whilst learning basic Nepali and attending briefings on teaching, keeping safe, staying healthy and Indian culture.

Project Work (Approx 10-12 weeks)

Living and working in Kalimpong or Mirik, in the Darjeeling area of West Bengal.

Quote AV volunteers teach, get involved in extra curricular clubs or work in the wider community. Together with fellow AVs you will live in local houses, with a high level of independence.  Spending significant time in one place lets you become fully involved and gain a sense of achievement.

Optional Independent Travel (4 weeks)

Following the end of your project you have the option to stay on and explore India further using the confidence and local knowledge gained on your project to make the most of your travels. Trek up into the Himalayas; visit famous temples, bustling towns and colourful markets; experience the Indian Railway network travelling from place to place and relax on beaches. You choose what you do, but we are still on hand to help.
