Gap Years & Volunteering in Kenya
Kenya is ‘Lion King' country and one of Africa's most scenic. From forested highlands to rolling savannah grasslands; from palm-fringed beaches to world famous national reserves and parks.
Combine all these with the smiles, the glamour and cultural variety of its people, and your volunteering experience is made up of warmth, colour, huge vistas, sunsets, dust and adventure.
The only way to immerse yourself in Africa is to live it, and there's no better way than volunteer teaching in Kenya with AV. You will be based in rural schools and communities, teaching anything from academic subjects, music, drama, arts and crafts, coaching sport or even helping to renovate dilapidated classrooms and working on environmental programmes...
Volunteer Teaching in Kenya
Whatever your sport - football, rugby, basketball, netball, hockey or cricket - we will place you in a school that plays and enjoys them. This is where AVs can really make the most of their gap year opportunity to make a difference and leave their mark.
Volunteer Sports Coaching in Kenya
This scheme involves three one-month projects - one on the coast near the Tanzanian border, one in a rural village in the Taru Desert and another on a game conservancy in the Great Rift Valley. You'll spend your volunteering time working with the communities on renovating schools and helping with whatever is seasonal - village life depends a lot on everyone working together to survive. Then you'll travel to our tented camp, on the shores of Lake Elementaita, to spend another month monitoring game, building hides, removing traps and fences and helping to create wetlands for bird species. You will also learn bush skills from the Masai and do some 4x4 driving under the direction one of Kenya's top rally drivers.
Environment, Community & Conservation Volunteering in Kenya
Sadly, there is one growth area in the developing world that doesn't get the attention it deserves - that of the orphans. Whether it is the scourge of AIDS and other diseases, war, famine or straightforward poverty - on a scale few of us can imagine - orphans are in need of special attention. They are everywhere you will be - every school, every village and every community. We are focussing special attention on the orphans of western Kenya at present for your gap year placement.
Orphanage Volunteering in Kenya
Whichever volunteer placement you choose, you'll get the chance to experience a 5-day African safari into two of Kenya's famous wildlife reserves, sending you home with some ‘Big 5' memories of those savannah grasslands and enormous skies. You'll enjoy bush camping under the stars, the night sounds of Africa and Tusker beer sundowners whilst reminiscing about the day.
Our 3 or 5-week Short Venture Community Volunteering on the Kenya Coast is just for you! This is for anyone - students, undergraduates or graduates - who wants a summer experience second-to-none. Our Short Ventures volunteer placements combine three weeks of helping to renovate community schools on Kenya's beautiful coastline, with weekends snorkelling or scuba diving in its marine parks and relaxing on pristine beaches. Followed by two weeks of safaris and include: wildlife parks, river rafting, trekking Mount Kenya and other action packed activities.
