Gap Years & Volunteering in China

Click to view videoMeet the new China - young, outward looking, interesting, varied and, of course, the new economic superpower on the block. The rebuilt China, with miles of motorway, crisp and clean new towns built for the modern age.

Gap Years & Volunteering Opportunities in China (Photograph: Chinese mountainsMeet a part of China not seen by most Western visitors and certainly off the current circuit, but in a stunning setting of mists and mountains around Mount Emeishan, the most sacred of the four Buddhist mountains in China, and close to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, the gateway to Tibet and also the centre of Giant Panda country.

Meet young China in the university, colleges and schools around Emei and Leshan during your volunteer teaching in China.

Gap Year Teaching in China

On your volunteer placement you will teach English to university students and at schools in and around Emei. As well as providing English practical conversation classes to support university lecturers and school English staff.

  • Ideal for anyone wanting to learn or improve their Mandarin.
  • The Chinese are very keen to learn English and you will be made so welcome - they love to get English speakers to sit in cafes or gardens and talk with them!
  • You will live in a flat or a room on the university campus and travel to your university faculty or middle school (up to 16 years old) each day.

Volunteer Teaching in China

gap year volunteer quoteAfter the teaching phase, you will be free for three weeks to travel independently, in groups of your choice, to investigate anywhere you want.

  • How about the Terracotta Warriors at Xiang?
  • Or the new railway to Lhasa, where oxygen is available when you cross the higher passes!
  • Or perhaps Shanghai or Beijing, or the fabled cormorant fishers on the River Li at Guilin? The Great Wall, the Chinese end of the Silk Road?
  • We guarantee there will be more places than you have time to see, so you will have to plan carefully.
  • The AV safari will be in the hill areas round the approaches to Tibet, in the Ya'an area around Mount Dongla.  Clamber round stunning gorges, stay in Tibetan villages and wander in conglomerate caves

And, of course, you can always extend your ticket, for a fee, delaying yyor return and see more of the China you haven't seen.  The real railway enthusiast may consider returning from Beijing to London by train.
