Useful Information

Back Up

Nigel Warren, our Africa Director, will be responsible for your group. You will be met at the airport by an AV rep. Nigel will run the orientation course and sort out any issues that arise during your time in Africa.

Weather

Kenya is often called a cool country with a hot sun and that sums it up well. Your school will be at about 6000ft above sea level, with cool nights and warm days. The coastal region is hot and humid. The northern arid areas, where you'll go on safari, are hot (approx 32°C). Tea plantations need rain, and the afternoon downpours and hours of sunshine keep these areas lush and green.

Medical

There is a network of good hospitals and doctors in Kenya and our Nairobi staff are always on hand to advise. Nairobi boasts a very high standard of hospitals and medical care.

Money

Most AV pairs eat well in their houses for about £10 per week. Eating in local restaurants can be as little as £5. Travel on local buses and ‘matatus' (mini buses) is cheap. If using the usual backpacker routes and accommodation you should be able to survive on £200 per week on your travels - lifestyle dependent! ATMs are plentiful in towns and Visa is the only card which is accepted.
