Itinerary - Gap-Adventure-Kenya - Africa and Asia Venture
If you are making your own flight arrangements, please ensure that you book and pay for your flight all the way through to Mombasa, arriving on the morning that your AV Adventure starts. We will assist you with the internal transfer in Nairobi and get you to your onward flight to Mombasa, where you be met by another of our AVA representatives.
After leaving Mombasa you will travel to Diani to spend 3 days and nights living under the coconut palms by the Indian Ocean's pristine beaches being briefed on the scheme and chilling out. It is an ideal setting for introducing you to the beautiful environment you will be living in during your project work. On Day 4 you will drive the short distance down the coast to Shimoni, your base for the project work.
The heart of your AV Adventure starts now! You will spend 14 working days (nearly 3 working weeks) helping renovate one of the many rural schools in this historic coastal region. You could also opt to teach, or coach sport. All our projects are in beautiful settings. Whilst at Shimoni we will arrange for you to spend a day snorkelling on the coral reefs in the Kisite Marine Park. We will also arrange for you to have a weekend back in Diani, just chilling on its stunning beaches or in its many beach bars.
Your route back to Nairobi just happens to pass 2 of the world's finest wildlife reserves - Tsavo and Amboseli! Here you will spend the next 4 nights identifying a huge range of wild animals and birds. The safari will return you to Nairobi for a night in a campsite.
Mt Kenya: You can choose to climb Mount Kenya, Africa's second highest mountain. You will be accompanied and equipped by a team of professional guides and porters and need only worry about enjoying the amazing scenery and reaching the top!
Adventure Activities:
Alternatively, you can choose our from a range of african safaris, including walking and mountain biking on Mount Kenya's forested slopes, visiting traditional villages and historical sites, horse riding amongst Kenya's wildlife on the Laikipia plains and trekking with camels through the African bush. None of this appeals? Try hooking a trout or simply enjoy the tranquillity, charm and comfort of the river lodge that will be your base.
A morning drive will be followed by some serious white-water-rafting, capped by an evening camping by the river and reminiscing over the events of this action-packed day. On Day 2, there is kayaking, abseiling and rock climbing. You will be accompanied and equipped by professional guides on all activities.
For your last day, we'll provide you with a vehicle and you can do whatever you like - shopping, visit the elephant orphanage (on your doorstep), lunch at great Nairobi restaurant and drive downtown to visit its colourful curio markets and the National Museum. You choose as a group and the only thing you will have to pay for is the shopping! Finally, we will get you to the airport to catch your flight home.
