Community Work - Africa and Asia Venture

Community Work

Photograph of AV project workAV volunteer projects are all community based, therefore whichever project you choose to volunteer on you will be living and working in the heart of a new community, becoming fully immersed in their way of life.

As an AV volunteer on one of the 3-5 month ventures in Africa and Asia you are not only attached to a school or but also a member of the local community. The teachers will a great source of information on local projects you could become involved with and will help you get to know the local people.

Depending on the project, additional project work varies from assisting with aids awareness campaigns, medical clinics, orphanages and local woman’s groups to working on the farm land – ploughing with oxen, milking goats or cows and collecting water.
There are lots of different ways in which you will be able to help.

Photograph of AV project workThe mini 5 week ventures in the summer are particularly focused around community work, helping to build classrooms, plaster walls, concrete floors and decorate them.  You will work alongside our skilled local craftsmen, helping where needed.

On the community, conservation and eco-tourism project in Ecuador you are fully immersed into the community at the Santa Lucia Lodge and will be helping them in a number of different ways. You will assist with bringing supplies up the mountain, work in the organic garden and help with the day to day running of the lodge, as well as maintaining trails and making the local panela sugar.
