Volunteering in China with AV gives you the chance to live in a part of China not seen by most Western visitors and certainly off the current circuit.

You will mix with young people of university age who work hard, have little money but a zest for life! In a stunning setting of mists and mountains around Mount Emeishan, you will be in awe of the most sacred of the four Buddhist mountains in China. Close to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province and the gateway to Tibet, you will be at the centre of Giant Panda country.

Our gap year projects and volunteering opportunities in China will see you teaching at Emei University and schools in the region. Emei is 96 kilometres southwest of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, and lies at the eastern edge of the mountains that form the Tibetan plateau. It is cooler, less arid and with fewer temperature extremes than Beijing and the eastern cities. Some of the scenery is stunning. Chengdu is the home of Taoism, whilst Mount Emeishan is one of four mountains of deep significance to Chinese Buddhists and also important to Martial Arts' enthusiasts. Emei is one of China’s new cities. With a population of around 300,000 it is tiny by Chinese standards and has a university campus and a number of schools. Leshan is a combination of old and new, with a population of 3 million. The people are very friendly and you will be made welcome with a beaming smile!
