The 2009 Happy Planet Index (HPI) has just been published by NEF (the New Economics Foundation) and is a triumph for Latin America.  The HPI measures the average life expectancy and life satisfaction of each nation, along with each country's ecological impact on the world. Not only was Costa Rica found to be the happiest country in the world (143 others considered), Latin America had nine of the ten top spots!

Latin America provides the gap year volunteer with opportunities to learn Spanish, teach English, protect leatherback turtles, live in rainforests and, as in all our destinations, work with beautiful people.  Volcanoes, the Caribbean, the Pacific, the Amazon…oh!  Did I mention the food?  Did you know that Mole (Moh-lay) is utterly delicious and has over 72 ingredients?
