With all the coverage about flu in Mexico at the moment, I am sure many of you are concerned about your volunteering plans in Mexico.
We currently have 22 volunteers in the Valle de Bravo area of Mexico and although their schools were closed for nearly two weeks, collectively the decision has been made for the AVs to stay on in Mexico and complete their teaching until the end of the term.
The primary schools opened on Monday and are trying to get back to normal. Wearing masks as a precaution, the AVs are glad to have the opportunity to remain in Mexico, and I have to say, are a pretty determined group!
During the two-week closure, AV took the opportunity to share with the group the beautiful northern hills far away from Mexico City for a weekend of adventure activities. The AVs agreed, it was great to spend some time as a group climbing the hills, zip wiring and eating fish from the Trout Farm next to a mountain river!
We plan to go ahead with our February 2010 five month Mexico volunteer teaching project.
Kate Burgess, one of the Mexico AVs, has been included in a Cumbrian News' article but be warned there are a few errors in their reporting!
