AV Graduate Volunteer Projects Work Experience with Difference - Africa and Asia Venture
For those amongst you with potentially no job on the horizon and an unclear idea about the next step,
it may help to think laterally and gain work experience in ways you have not yet considered. AV programmes provide a great grounding for both Grads and PGCE students looking for specific or general work experience offering maximum (soft skills) development.
We have recently been approached by grads who have been turned down for PGCE courses needing to gain work experience, and they see AV as a clear solution with so many added benefits.
AV (Africa and Asia Venture) can provide a bespoke volunteer teaching programme in rural Nepal. Three months first hand experience offers the opportunity to teach in remote schools (at both primary and secondary level). Getting to grips with lesson planning, teaching and adjusting to the daily routine in a different culture and community offers huge potential for learning and developing personal skills through the interaction with a diverse set of school pupils in a varied and rich placement.
Programmes require a 3-month commitment, (a full term in a school.) Costs are based around £1,000 per month this includes flights, accommodation, living allowance, full back-up, training and support plus a group trekking adventure and personal money for specially allocated independent 3-week independent travel period. Grads are placed with other Grads rather than school leavers. October departures are popular as this is the best season to visit the continent and historically, this allows just enough time to raise funds after Uni, before flying out and therefore avoiding becoming a drain to parents as well as the CV.
