A walk down memory lane

( Last Updated: 24-05-2010 )

George Tarus, a former teacher at Kipriria School in the Nandi Hills, Kenya has been taking a walk Gap Years & Volunteering Opportunitiesdown AV memory lane.

"I visited Kapnyeberai High School today where my sisters go to school and I was glad to see AVs there. I am happy that AV is doing well. You remember that it was through AV that my life took a turn for the better. I want to inform you that I finished university in May having completed my law degree programme at Moi University in Eldoret. I am now back home in Nandi Hills awaiting graduation in December. I still stay in touch with a good number of ex-AVs with who I've established lasting bonds. I am engaged in a school linking project with Joanne Dwyer (Kenya 2004) while Nick Daniels (Kenya 2003) and I are working on several long term projects."

It is not just the students that benefit from AV volunteers, it is the whole school! By spending their time teaching in the classrooms, reading stories in the dorms, helping with lunch in the kitchen and even doing their washing with the locals; AV's create long lasting friendships with teachers, students, and entire communities.
